Tune-Up
Everything needs a tune-up now like a lawn mower or central air system. You charge the battery, sharpen the blades, and check the oil in your mower. Then you clear out the dust in your air system and put in a new filter to keep it running just right. A new car around 60,000 miles starts to require some additional tuning as well. Still a great car, but from use over time, it just needs to be “tuned-up” and ready to go the next 100,000 miles.
Your computer is the same way as all these other tools and appliances. There are two key tune-up areas: hardware and software. As more and more technology emerges, older computers become slower because of new requirements that did not exist when it was built and purchased. It is very affordable to increase memory on your computer and that is a common thing we look at if the computer allows for additional memory. Imagine you have a pile of stuff and one small box to put it in. The small box is your system’s memory. As you surf the web or write a document you are putting more stuff in the box. A memory upgrade gives you a bigger box that can fit more stuff and larger stuff that wouldn’t fit before. Memory is different from your hard drive as things go into the box as they are being used. If you open Chrome and Word then they are now in your box of memory that the computer has immediate access to. Your hard drive stores your data so think of it as a big storage unit. There are faster options to upgrade for hard drives now just like there are faster vehicle engines, sometimes an upgrade of this makes sense and sometimes cleaning up the storage unit that is your hard drive is the best fit. Somethings you might have never known were on your computer and other things are just accumulated clutter that can be cleaned up.
A software tune-up is very common and popular. Rather quickly, what was new becomes outdated for software. We update all these different software programs to get them to their peak performance and patch areas that could allow viruses or the “wares” to come in. We also remove software that is clutter. Pop-ups and some online downloads have little extras that do nothing but take up space and slow down your machine. We clear all of that out since it provides no benefit. Outside of your computer running slow, you likely never realized it was there. When we remove the junk, the only difference is your computer runs better. We also work with your computer to see what resources it needs to use when. It is common for login times to become faster and overall performance to be much more pleasing. This paired with a memory upgrade can add great additional usable life to your computer.
When it comes to our tune-up services, we take the information from our free diagnostic testing and quickly can determine what areas need a little work to increase speed and performance.
